Castles and Golf in Scotland
If mediaeval castles catch your imagination, then the extensive atmospheric ruins of Kildrummy and Glenbuchat are just up the road. You can take a guided tour around the fairytale splendour of the pink Craigievar Castle that inspired Walt Disney or the old Redcoat garrison of Corgarff Castle (pictured). These and many more can be found on the well signed Castle Trail.
For the garden lovers among you, the splendid gardens at Crathes Castle, the magical one created in a natural cleft below the ruins of Kildrummy Castle or the immaculate gardens of Pitmedden in Lower Donside (pictured) are all close by. More information can be found on the National Trust for Scotland website.
If golf is your 'bag' then this area offers over 60 golf courses to suit all levels of player and all easily accessible from Auld Cummerton. A particular gem is Bruce's club at Tarland and Ballater Golf Club (pictured), so Bruce will be delighted to have the excuse to talk about local golf. More information can be found at Golf in Grampian.
- THE WHISKY TRAIL
- The famous 'amber nectar' is produced at many distilleries in the area and most have visitor facilities to see and taste the whisky. The Whisky Trail is well marked from this area and makes a super day out.
